Over the family’s eighty-seven years on the land, wool quality has evolved from an average of 23–24 microns to a current average of just over 16 microns.

The physical attributes of Bonneys Plains, it’s cool temperate climate and annual rainfall of approximately 500mm are ideally suited to producing soft, bright superfine Merino fibre.

Approximately 80 percent of the property comprises of native grassland or grassy woodland, supporting many important indigenous plant communities. Stewardship agreements are in place to ensure the ongoing health and protection of this country.

Bonneys Plains has also been a notable participant in the prestigious Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Trophy Awards. Zegna, the renowned Italian luxury fashion house, sources some of the world’s finest Merino wool from Australia, including Tasmania, and established the awards in 1963 to recognise and encourage excellence among wool growers.

Bonneys Plains has been a finalist in these esteemed awards, most recently placed in the top ten of the Zegna Group Extrafine Wool Trophy.
