The Derwent Valley is a well-known region for its unique river valley environment and productive soils and has been a significant agricultural area and continuous hop production region.

Allanvale was purchased by James’ grandfather in the 1970’s as part of a family settlement. James’ family have been farming in the Derwent Valley since 1894. James and Helen with their three children, Freddie, Annabel and Stella now live at Allanvale.

James and Helen are passionate about merino wool and are consistently improving and modernising their livestock operation to produce high quality, sustainable, and ethically raised fibre that meet the evolving demands of consumers.

James and Helen have expanded their successful business over the last 10 years to predominantly focus on a livestock enterprise whilst maintaining their environmental goals and continued commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and Responsible Wool Standards.

Allanvale’s aim is to breed resilient merinos, maintaining stylish wool whilst also harnessing desirable reproductive and carcass traits.
